Finding Dory (2016)
Naturally, the second half of this double-header is the sequel to Finding Nemo, Finding Dory.
The Movie:
Finding Dory is the 17th Pixar movie. Like the first movie, this one was generally well received, evening passing it in box office totals. Finding Dory is just the second Pixar film to make over a billion dollars worldwide and is currently the fifth highest grossing animated film of all time (and the highest in just North America).
Finding Dory takes place a year after the first movie. Now living at the reef with Marlin and Nemo, Dory is getting flashes of memories of her parents, and she remembers that she once lived in Morro Bay, California. The trio hops another ride on Crush the sea turtle to Morro Bay, where they find an aquarium. There Dory gets separated, and she sets out searching for her parents, while Marlin and Nemo track down Dory.
Of all the Pixar movies, Finding Nemo is one that probably didn't really need a sequel. However, if there had to be one, Finding Dory is as good of a sequel as you could ask for. It retains the quality and talent level of the first along with telling another story with plenty of heart. Plot-wise, there are a few more contrivances than the first movie, but they don't take too much away from the story.
Once again, there is a solid score from Thomas Newman. And in keeping with theme, the closing credits song is another classic, this time a cover of Nat King Cole's "Unforgettable" by Sia. (For added measure, in the movie we get a short section of Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World.")
Presence in the Parks:
Since this film features the same core characters, it pretty much goes with the tie-ins to the first movie. Turtle Talk with Crush at The Seas with Nemo and Friends at Epcot did add some characters that only appear in this movie.
